2009 Global Development Awards and Medals Competition
Entry open for the Japanese Award for Most Innovative Development Project

The Global Development Network (GDN) is now accepting submissions for the 2009 Annual Global Development Awards and Medals Competition for the Japanese Award for Most Innovative Development Project.

A competitive grant program administered by GDN, the competition provides an opportunity for organizations to expand their on-going field work in any development related project. Finalists are invited to attend the Annual Global Development Conference, held each year in a different country, to showcase their project proposals before an eminent jury for the final round. This year the Annual Conference will be held in Prague from January 16-18, 2010. The winning proposal will receive a cash award of US$ 30,000 and the runner-up organization will receive US$ 5,000.

This award recognises organizations whose project embodies a fresh approach to an important development need, holds the greatest promise for benefiting the poor in developing and transition countries and needs further financial assistance for expanding the project or for initiating a pilot programme.

The deadline for submitting completed applications is August 24, 2009.

Global Film Initiative Accepting Applications for Summer 2009 Feature-Film Production Grants

As part of its continuing effort to promote original filmmaking by individuals from around the world, the Global Film Initiative has announced the Summer 2009 cycle of its feature-film Production Grants program.

Global Film Initiative production grants are awarded twice a year, in winter and summer, to filmmakers whose work exhibits artistic excellence, authentic self-representation, and accomplished storytelling. The granting program furthers the initiative’s mission of contributing to the development of local film industries while offering audiences a variety of cultural perspectives on daily life around the world.

The Global Film Initiative accepts grant applications from countries in the following regions: Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East, Asia (excluding Hong Kong, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan), and Oceania (excluding Australia and New Zealand). The initiative strongly believes in supporting narrative storytelling traditions from around the world and invites all qualified applicants to submit their work for granting consideration. Grant recipients will be selected based on an evaluation of the applicant’s completed screenplay and early film-footage.

The program will provide grants of up to $10,000 each to support completion of film production, and to subsidize post-production costs, such as laboratory and sound mixing fees and access to modern editing systems.

Visit the Global Film Initiative Web site for complete program information.
